Colorado voters cast over 2 million ballots for 2024 election
With just one day remaining until Election Day, over 2 million Coloradans have turned in their ballot so far, representing a little under half of the state’s registered voters, according to the latest numbers.
Of the ballots cast so far, 29% were submitted by Democrats, 27% by Republicans, 42% were by unaffiliated voters, and .17% by members of the American Constitution Party. Nearly 97% of all ballots returned so far were submitted by mail.
Turnout this year is notably lower than in 2020. However, this could be because people were more likely to vote by mail than in person due to the pandemic. Voter participation in this election is significantly higher than in the 2022 midterms, which is typical for a presidential election cycle.
Also of note, the number of ballots cast by unaffiliated voters has already exceeded the number of Democrats who voted by this time in 2020. This shift that at least in part be attributed to the state’s automatic voter registration system, which registers new voters as unaffiliated unless they opt to affiliate with a party, which went into effect in 2021.
A total of 3,291,661 ballots were cast by Coloradans in the 2020 election, an over 86% turnout rate.
