Westminster City Councilwoman Maria De Cambra is joining the Colorado office of national political consultants Hilltop Public Solutions as a senior associate, the firm announced Thursday.

De Cambra, the first Venezuelan-Anerican woman elected to office in the United States, has been managing director of progressive advocacy group Campaign for a Strong Colorado for five years. She starts at Hilltop at the end of the month.

“We are very excited to have Maria join the Hilltop family,” said Hilltop partner Craig Hughes. “Through her work on the Westminster City Council, she has played a key role in advancing affordable housing efforts in the region and brings a wealth of knowledge about effective governance and community engagement, as well as developing into a top level communications and message strategist. Maria has spent over a decade leading community organizing, messaging, and public policy efforts within the Latino community, and we are looking forward to expanding our work in this area.”

De Cambra, who was born in Florida and grew up in Caracas, Venezuela, went to college at Ohio State University. She completed the Harvard Kennedy School Senior Executives in State and Local Government this summer. She became the first Latina to serve on the Westminster City Council when she was elected in 2015.

Hilltop has offices in New York and Washington and across the West.
