URBAN PEAK

Denver

News: Former Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock will be honored as the 2025 Urban Legend when Urban Peak hosts its signature fundraiser, Urban Nights. Those attending the Sept. 13 event are encouraged to get creative with their footwear in keeping with the Kicks & Culture Sneaker Ball theme.

Hancock, who served three terms as Denver’s mayor, is now founder and CEO of Hancock Global Services and the Hancock Foundation, Inc. During his time as mayor, Hancock directed $16.7 million in general obligation bonds to help Urban Peak build The Mothership, its campus at 1630 S. Acoma St., Denver, a drop-in center and shelter that also offers services to address the complex needs of young people experiencing homelessness.

The Kicks & Culture Sneaker Ball will be at The Brighton, an event space at 3403 Brighton Blvd., in the RiNo Arts District.

Organizers Brianna Borin, Jordan Pryczynski, Daniel Ramos and Brett Wayman say that the 6 p.m. event is one where “Street art, style and music unite.” It will feature dinner and drinks, an auction and a performance by GALACTIC, featuring Jelly Joseph.

Spark Sponsors include DaVita, Empower, Karen and Dick Thomas, the Kessenich Family Foundation and the O’Reilly Family Foundation. Ember Sponsors are King & Spalding, Room & Board and Joan Winstein.

About the organization: Urban Peak was formed to support young people in getting off the streets and out of a system that is designed to support chronically homeless adults. Its outreach team meets young people where they are – often on the streets they call home – to offer safe conversation, simple food, hygiene materials or clothing to stay warm. Urban Peak’s Mothership is Denver’s only licensed shelter for those between the ages of 12 through 24 who are experiencing homelessness. There, young people can make their first steps toward self-sufficiency through mental health services, a medical clinic, life-skills development programs, and case management services. Urban Peak also operates three apartment buildings as well as scattered-site housing units.
