State Rep. Edie Hooton backs Alexis King for Jeffco DA

State Rep. Edie Hooton, a Democrat from Boulder, is throwing her endorsement for district attorney over Jefferson and Gilpin counties to Alexis King.

King is a Democrat from Golden who, so far, faces Jake Lilly from Lakewood and Josh Raaz of Golden in her party primary in Judicial District 1.

Matthew Durkin of Littleton is running alone, so far, in the Republican primary, after Steve Jensen of Golden dropped out.

They are running to replace Pete Weir, who is term-limited. Lilly lost to Weir in 2016.

“Like me, Alexis has a strong commitment to strengthening our response and intervention for youth, making smarter use of our resources by treating non-violent offenders in the community, and helping people stand on their own feet after incarceration,” Hooton said in a statement Wednesday. “More importantly, Alexis has the experience to make it happen.”

King, Durkin and Raaz are deputy prosecutors in the office. Lilly, who lives in Jefferson County, is the sex assault prosecutor for the neighboring 5th Judicial District.
