The University of Colorado-Boulder and Colorado College have made the list of top institutions for students who travel abroad to study, according to a recent report.

In the 2017-18 school year, 1,112 CU students studied abroad for a semester, the fifth-highest number among the top 40 doctorate-granting institutions. The school also ranked 26th for the total number of students studying abroad.

“CU-Boulder students of all majors are eager to explore the world, and to take advantage of the multiple types of opportunities we offer for them to learn abroad, including internships, faculty-led global seminars, and more Boulder-based courses that now include an international travel component,” said Education Abroad Director Mary Dando in a statement.

She cited the popular destinations for students as Spain, Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Australia and the United Kingdom.

Colorado College, a private liberal arts college in Colorado Springs, also ranked 13th among the top 40 baccalaureate college, sending 467 students to study abroad in 2017-2018.

Eighty-one percent of its students participate in study abroad.

While Colorado State University did not rank as highly, the school saw 1,375 students participate in study, research, internship and service-learning programs abroad in 2016-2017.

The Institute of International Education releases the Open Doors Report every year to track the numbers of American students going abroad and international students coming to study in the U.S.

In the 2018-19 school year, the Open Doors Report tallied 3,293 international students from 103 countries who headed to CU-Boulder. The most common countries of origin were China, India, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and South Korea.

CU-Boulder’s total enrollment as of its fall 2019 census is 35,528. The enrollment for Colorado College is 2,144 students.
