Former Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander, the president of Let America Vote and a 2016 Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, will be the featured guest at a March fundraiser for Colorado secretary of state candidate Jena Griswold, her campaign announced Wednesday.

Kander and Griswold, who is challenging Republican Secretary of State Wayne Williams’ bid for a second term, plan to discuss voting rights at the morning event.

The first member of the millennial generation to be elected to statewide office anywhere in the country, Kander, 36, is an Army combat veteran who served in Afghanistan and has been mentioned as a potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidate.

In a 2016 campaign ad considered one of the best in the cycle, the blindfolded Kander assembles an AR-15 rifle while talking about his support for gun rights and background checks “so that terrorists can’t get their hands on one of these.” He lost the election to the Republican incumbent, U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, by less than 3 points the same night President Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton by 19 points.

The fundraiser is 9:30-10:30 a.m. on March 12 in Denver. Tickets range from $30 up to the maximum allowable contribution of $1,150. Donors who dig deep can attend a private reception with Kander.

Kander delivered last year’s keynote address at the Colorado Democratic Party’s 84th Annual Dinner.

Griswold, a 33-year-old attorney, worked on President Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign on voting rights matters and later served as director of Gov. John Hickenlooper’s office representing state interests in Washington, D.C.

Democrat Phillip Villard, a political newcomer, is also running for the office.
