The Pueblo Chieftain editorial: Get rid of eyesores

PUEBLO NEEDS a systematic, no-nonsense program of ridding the city of eyesores — especially derelict and abandoned houses — that plague our living environment.

Now is as good a time as any to embark on an eyesore-eradication campaign. The city finally will see to the demolition of a burned-out house at 1115 Spruce St. which has been an ugly scar on that residential block for too long. The work was scheduled to start this week and proceed to taking away the debris over several days.

“It’s way overdue,” said District 4 Councilman Ray Aguilera, who has been prodding the city to get the job done. “It’s going to be a relief to the people who live in the neighborhood, especially because there is a school (Bessemer Academy) across the street.”
