The Denver Post editorial: Donald Trump and Ryan Zinke should protect our national monuments

President Donald Trump’s administration will spend the next 120 days reviewing every large national monument designation made since 1996. An estimated 24 sites will fall under review.

That’s a laughably short time to review the merits, uses and boundaries of national monuments, some of which have been in place for 20 years protecting unique geological formations and historic relics from development.

However, that’s not to say that a thorough review, done over time in an effort to balance protecting important archaeological sites while allowing responsible recreation and development, couldn’t be worthwhile.
