Clinton plans Pueblo visit, Gardner criticizes Clinton
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is scheduled to make a campaign stop in Pueblo on Wednesday, her first trip to Colorado since Aug. 3.
According to The Pueblo Chieftain, officials with the Clinton campaign said Clinton’s appearance is tied to a public voter registration event, where Clinton will urge supporters to make sure they’re registered to vote. Clinton is also expected to talk about the high stakes of this election, as well as her vision for an America that is stronger together, with an economy that works for everyone.
Colorado has the highest percentage of registered voters of any state in the country, according to the Colorado Secretary of State’s office. Recent figures show Democrats slightly outnumbering Republicans for the first time in 32 years heading into a general election.
Republican U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, at an awards ceremony on Monday, Oct. 10, 2016 at Ball Aerospace‘s Westminster facility, told the Statesman the Sunday night, Oct. 9, debate between Clinton and Republican candidate Donald Trump showed why Clinton should not be president.
“She continued to have an inability to answer questions and things like that erode voter’s confidence in her candidacy,” Gardner said. “I think more and more voters will understand why she has to be defeated.”
When asked about Trump, Gardner repeated his call for Trump to step aside in the wake of videotaped comments Trump made about women in 2005. Gardner said he planned to cast a write-in vote for Republican vice-presidential candidate Mike Pence.
“I think he has the best chance to defeat Hillary Clinton,” Gardner said.
