The General Assembly on Tuesday confirmed two former elected officials, Polly Baca and Nathaniel “Nate” Easley Jr., to serve on the board of governors for the Colorado State University system.

“Their wealth of experience and strong connections across the state will be valuable as we strive to advance this mission in new and important ways,” said board Chair Nancy Tuor. The board has 15 members. Nine are voting members, appointed to four-year terms by the governor. The nonvoting members comprise a faculty and student member from each of the three campuses: CSU in Fort Collins, CSU-Pueblo and the Global online program.

A fourth campus, Spur, is scheduled for groundbreaking in April at the National Western Center in Denver.

Baca was the first Latina to serve in the state House of Representatives and state Senate. She received a bachelor’s degree in political science from CSU and worked for presidents Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. She was also a co-chair of Catholics for Obama in 2012.

Easley served on the Denver Public Schools board of education. He has been the president of the Denver Scholarship Foundation and RootED charities. Easley received a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in higher education from CSU, and also holds a Ph.D. in education from American University.
