Colorado schools to receive part of $10M school safety fund
Colorado county officials have announced $10 million would go to school safety projects at more than 100 schools after a shooting killed one student and injured eight others.
The Denver Post reported Thursday that Douglas County commissioners voted in May to contribute the one-time fund following a deadly shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch.
Officials said Monday that about $8 million would go to physical upgrades, about $1 million to mental health and the remaining to developed technology.
County officials did not say how much money was going to each school, but every school that requested money received a portion of the fund.
Officials say commissioners also committed an additional $3 million to fund 26 police officers on campuses and $331,000 for a mental health response team that launched Monday.
