Denver mayoral candidate Giellis apologizes after NAACP gaffe (VIDEO)

Denver mayoral challenger Jamie Giellis apologized Wednesday for what she called a “momentary lapse” when she was unable to identify what the initials NAACP stand for in a live interview.

The lapse occurred in an interview by host Shay Johnson the previous day on the Brother Jeff Fard show on Facebook. (See the video clip above.)

The NAACP, or the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, is an American civil rights organization founded in 1909.

“This campaign has expanded my knowledge of other cultures, their wants, struggles, and successes,” Giellis said in a written statement following her NAACP gaffe.
