The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel: Stop the separation of parents and kids
Criticism of a Trump administration “zero-tolerance” policy that separates immigrant children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border appears to be cresting ahead of a Republican effort to push immigration legislation through the U.S. House of Representatives this week.
It’s a loathsome policy, with plenty of detractors, both Republican and Democrat. Even the conservative editorial page of the New York Post, owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., opined on Sunday: “It’s not just that this looks terrible in the eyes of the world. It is terrible.”
But President Donald Trump has consistently shaded the truth on this matter, insisting that he’s enforcing the law and that if Democrats don’t like it, they should play ball with Republicans to fix it.
