The Pueblo Chieftain: Fiesta Day worth keeping
Fiesta Day, the most popular, best-attended event at the Colorado State Fair year in and year out, can retain that exalted status by a restructuring of the beleaguered Fiesta Day Committee, which has fallen on hard times of late.
Chris Wiseman, the Fair’s interim general manager, is tackling that important job following the recent resignation of Melissa Casias as the Fiesta Day Committee chair less than a year following the abrupt departure of longtime coordinator/chairman Brian Montez.
Wiseman needs communitywide support for his resolve to reorganize the committee and include more civic-minded leaders to infuse stability and vision into Fiesta Day. It will be the task of a newly expanded and talented committee, then, to reverse the recent trend of fewer and fewer participants raising less and less money to fund the annual Fiesta Queen scholarships and to keep the Fiesta Day Parade a huge attraction for Pueblo residents and visitors alike.
