The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel: A torch is passed, but to whom … and what?

Billy Graham was laid to rest on Friday.

The evangelical leader, known as “America’s pastor,” had long retired from public life, but his death sparked waves of analysis about how he shaped contemporary views of religion in this country.

Graham helped build a national “religious consensus” or the idea that the country was best served by having a common morality to guide us. Graham preached the Gospel, urging followers to love their enemies so they could live without malice.
