The Pueblo Chieftain: The fair’s future in Pueblo
Like a sharpshooter who figured out how to get a ball through the basket on one of those tricky carnival games, Colorado State Fair officials should be feeling like winners right now.
Chris Wiseman, the Fair’s interim general manager, reported good news following a recent meeting with the state Legislature’s audit committee. Not only was the Fair’s most recent audit positive, but most lawmakers on the committee seem committed to keeping the annual event in Pueblo.
That’s a relief. For years, there have been rumblings about relocating the Fair to somewhere in the Denver metro area. In 2015, The Denver Post reported the Fair “has been losing money and depending on millions of dollars each year in taxpayer subsidies for at least the past 13 years and auditors told legislators there’s no financial solution in sight at the current location.”
