Stay in your lane

Focus, City Council, on issues of relevance to Pueblo. This admonition was prompted by a brief exchange between Councilman Bob Schilling (about standing for the national anthem) and Councilman Larry Atencio (supporting the NFL protesters who don’t).

During the council’s regular member commentary agenda Monday, Schilling devoted his personal remarks to mild criticism of the players who have chosen not to stand for the pregame playing of the anthem and flying of the American flag.

“I can’t think of a good reason not to stand,” Schilling said. “And I think there should be and I hope there are some things that stay sacred. … And I don’t think you kneel and I don’t think you sit.”
