The Pueblo Chieftain editorial: City leadership

Pardon our language, but just tear down the damn buildings.

Someone at City Hall needs to adopt the spirit of that statement, cut through the red tape and bureaucracy, and demolish three chronic eyesore houses.

The trash heaps are at 1115 Spruce St., 711 Greenwood St. and 2145 Hellbeck Drive. One was a crime scene; one is a burned-out hulk across the street from Bessemer Academy; and one amazingly continues to stay upright.

Last July, the City Council agreed to set aside $270,000 for the cleanup and demolition of the three buildings. But as reported in The Chieftain last week, it hasn’t happened.
