D1 Training expands with new franchise gym in south Colorado Springs owned by veterans

A second D1 Training gym, known for big-name sponsors like Peyton Manning and Chris Paul, will call Colorado Springs home.

The gym will be owned by franchisees Chris and AnneMarie Carr, veterans of the Navy and Air Force, respectively, and offers a sports science based approach to training athletes of all ages.

The new gym, located at 2225 Executive Circle, officially opens Monday becoming the second location in Colorado Springs.

Differing from a traditional gym, D1 Training offers four age-based programs and builds its fitness offerings based on five core tenets of athletic-based training: a dynamic warmup, performance, strength program, core and conditioning and a cooldown, a release from the company said.

Chris, himself a former Division II athlete in multiple sports, was drawn to D1 Training’s approach and is hoping to foster both athletic development and fitness in the community.

“Growing up, my coaches always had a big influence on me, so I know the kind of impact we can have on local athletes,” he said. “Coaches gave me a second lease on life when I was growing up. … They helped me course-correct and (helped) put me in the position I am in today.”

Outside of group workouts, D1 Training offers team, small group, semi-private and one-on-one training. The goal is simple: Get people to attain their sport or fitness goals, regardless of age, or athletic background, the company said.

The new gym is the second location D1 Training has in Colorado Springs. The first, located at 5815 Mark Dabling Blvd., opened in 2013 and originally partnered with Front Range Orthopedics as D1 Training sought a pro sports owner of that location.

The Carrs will join a star-studded roster of franchisees, which includes NBA star Chris Paul, Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow and NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.

D1 Training has more than 100 performance centers open with over 100 additional locations in various stages of development, the company said in a news release.

But the impact of the new D1 Training gym will go beyond just bringing a fitness resource to Colorado Springs’ south side.

“We are looking to sponsor 13 high school athletes, one from every high school in our territory… We’ll be announcing those recipients at our grand opening on June 28,” Carr said.

A list of the schools may be found at D1 Training’s website for the new location. The Name, Image and Likeness deal is collectively valued at $40,000, according to the website. Students may be nominated online.
