More than 40 mortar-style fireworks, found by Colorado Springs officers, initially reported as ‘mortars’

Colorado Springs police confirmed that the “mortars” found at the scene of a grass fire early Sunday in the 3600 block of Oro Blanco Drive were mortar-style fireworks.

The discovery, which took place in the 3600 block of Oro Blanco Drive, was initially reported as mortars in an online blotter entry. After the Colorado Springs Fire Department extinguished the grass fire, officers found 20 expended aerial fireworks and 24 that had not gone off. Officers from CSPD’s Regional Explosives Unit took possession of the unused fireworks.

No suspect information was available as of Monday afternoon.
