“Bridging the Political Divide” is the topic of a free public presentation being held Thursday about Colorado Springs’ politically changing landscape.

The event runs 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Ent Center for the Arts, 5225 N. Nevada Ave.

While there’s no charge, attendees are asked to register at https://tickets.entcenterforthearts.org/5254/5255. Tickets must be presented at the door.

Hosted by the Greenberg Center for Learning and Tolerance in Colorado Springs, the presentation features David Siders, politics editor at Politico, a digital newspaper that covers politics and policy in the United States and internationally.

Siders interviewed Colorado Springs residents in June and wrote an article, “Americans Are Leaving Both Parties. This Colorado City Shows Why.”

The article examines the ramifications of a growing trend that’s also evident in Colorado Springs: that more voters are registering as Unaffiliated than both the Republican and Democratic parties combined.

Whether that’s changing the dynamics of local politics or will present ways to diminish divisive rhetoric and bring parties collaboratively to the political table is up for debate.

Community leaders and local elected officials also will speak about finding constructive ways to solve big challenges.

And opportunities for civic engagement and models of community dialogue will be presented.

The Greenberg Center for Learning and Tolerance was founded in Colorado Springs in 2003 by Dr. David and Paulette Greenberg, members of Temple Shalom, to “promote learning, understanding and acceptance that honors the cultural dignity of all mankind.”
