State Capitol building closed Thursday

The Colorado State Capitol building will be closed to the public on Thursday after an interior sewer line cracked and released sewage.

According to a news release, the damaged line is located in the sub-basement of the building.

While the leak has been contained, there is no estimate on how long repairs could take. As a result, most events scheduled for Thursday at the Capitol have been canceled.

One event, the retirement of Colorado National Guard Colonel Charles Q. Beatty will go on as planned. It’s scheduled to take place in the Old Supreme Court Chambers at 1 p.m.

However, the news release notes that building bathrooms will be inoperable during repairs.

Anyone attending that event must enter the building from the south side entrance, which is off 14th Avenue. Construction safety fencing is in place on the south side of the building.

There will be signage in place to direct attendees to the ADA-accessible entrance on the ground level. Attendees with questions should contact Senate Services at 720-771-0819.
