Former President Donald Trump has completely rewritten his convention speech in light of the assassination attempt against him on Saturday and will call on Thursday for a new effort at national unity.

In an exclusive interview with the Washington Examiner a day after being hit by a sniper’s bullet, Trump said he wanted to take advantage of a historic moment and draw the country together.

“The speech I was going to give on Thursday was going to be a humdinger,” he said, “Had this not happened, this would’ve been one of the most incredible speeches” aimed mostly at the policies of President Joe Biden. “Honestly, it’s going to be a whole different speech now.”

A Colorado Democratic lawmaker deleted his X account after tweeting that the “last thing America needed was sympathy for the devil” following the attempted assassination of Donald Trump on Saturday.

Rep. Steven Woodrow, D-Denver, faced backlash from both Republicans and members of his own party.

“The last thing America needed was sympathy for the devil but here we are,” Woodrow said.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis met with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday as state leaders from across the nation gathered for the National Governors Association’s summer conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Zelenskyy met privately with governors before addressing the attendees to discuss Ukraine’s defense operations and its deployment of American funding.

He described the Russian invasion of his country in stark, religious terms.

Gov. Jared Polis elected as chair of National Governors Association

Gov. Jared Polis has been elected as the chair of the National Governors Association, a nonpartisan political organization comprised of leaders from 55 states, territories and commonwealths.

Polis replaced former Chair Gov. Spencer Cox of Utah as head of the organization.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt was elected the organization’s Vice Chair.
