The latest campaign finance reports filed with the Secretary of State show hot fundraising for several primary races for the state House and Senate.

As of May 29, the hottest race is the Democratic Senate District 19 primary contest, where candidates are looking to succeed Sen. Rachel Zenzinger, D-Arvada.

The contest is between Rep. Lindsay Daugherty and Westminster City Councilman Obi Ezeadi, with the fundraising now neck-and-neck.

Jeff Hurd holds wide lead in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District Republican primary, poll shows

Grand Junction Republican Jeff Hurd holds a comfortable lead in the six-way GOP primary in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District as ballots go in the mail to voters, new polling shows.

Hurd, an attorney and first-time candidate, was the choice of 27% of the likely Republican primary voters polled, with none of his rivals breaking out of single digits, according to results of a co/efficient survey conducted this week and made available exclusively to Colorado Politics. Just over half of those surveyed said they were undecided.

Colorado attorney general warns that setting Pride flags ablaze can be a crime in some circumstances

It can be a crime to burn a Pride flag, depending on the circumstances, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said on Wednesday after the state Republican Party issued a call to do just that in a series of anti-LGBTQ messages.

The Colorado GOP drew criticism and condemnation this week when its chairman, Republican congressional candidate Dave Williams, distributed an email to supporters with the subject line “God Hates Pride” that featured a prominent graphic reading “God Hates Flags” to mark the start of Pride Month, an annual celebration of the LGBTQ community.

Federal judge grants narrow injunction against Colorado pre-K program but rejects Catholic parishes' LGBTQ challenge

A federal judge on Tuesday concluded Colorado’s universal pre-kindergarten program impermissibly infringes on the rights of two Catholic parishes with its treatment of students’ religious affiliation, while at the same time rejecting large swaths of their challenge to a related LGBTQ non-discrimination requirement.

Two Catholic institutions, St. Mary Catholic Parish in Littleton and St. Bernadette Catholic Parish in Lakewood, filed suit against the state, alleging their preschools cannot participate in the publicly funded program because the church’s religious views on sexual orientation and gender identity run afoul of the requirements. Two parishioners of St. Mary with a preschool-age child are also parties to the litigation.

U.S. District Court Senior Judge John L. Kane held a trial in January, hearing from witnesses who helped develop the program, experts in psychology and parenting, and employees of the Catholic church. Ultimately, Kane rejected the parishes’ core claim that Colorado had violated their constitutional rights by requiring providers to give students an equal opportunity to enroll regardless of sexual orientation.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis signs law to protect concertgoers from ticket scams

Gov. Jared Polis on Wednesday signed a new law at the Red Rocks Amphitheater, saying it will help protect concertgoers and other entertainment enthusiasts from ticket scam sales.

The amphitheater is one of Colorado’s most prominent concert venues.

House Bill 1378, which supporters called called “the most pro-consumer ticketing law in the country,” requires ticket sellers to guarantee consumer refunds under certain circumstances, such as if an event is canceled. It also prohibits a venue from denying entry to individuals who purchased their tickets from a reseller, which has happened in the past due to concerns over the authenticity of resold tickets.
