Procession to be held for fallen Boulder officer; vigils planned in wake of King Soopers mass killing
A procession will be held Wednesday afternoon for fallen Boulder Police Department officer Eric Talley as his body will be moved to a funeral home in Aurora.
Police said the procession will start at 3 p.m. and will go down Pearl Street, then Foothills Parkway to Highway 36.
Police said the public is invited to line up with vehicles and on foot on the west side of Foothills Parkway between Pearl Street and South Boulder Road before 3 p.m.
Roads will be briefly closed as the Hearse is escorted by police.
Talley was one of 10 people who were shot and killed on Monday afternoon during a shooting spree at a King Soopers on Table Mesa Drive. A suspect is in custody.
Three vigils have also been scheduled.
At 7 p.m. Wednesday, there will be a candlelight vigil at the Boulder Courthouse near the Pearl Street Mall at 1325 Pearl St.
The event will focus on community healing and those impacted by the shooting.
Also Wednesday, there will be a Boulder healing vigil at Tantra Park (4500 Hanover Ave.). It will go from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Organizers are asking those who will be attending to bring a light to shine to honor the victims of the shooting.
And on Thursday, there will be a Boulder Strong candlelight vigil at Fairview High School (1515 Greenbriar Blvd.). It will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The event is being led by Moms Demand Action. Attendees are asked to remain in their vehicles, and social distancing and masks are required.
