Tech glitch halts state’s new unemployment claims report

The widely read and anticipated weekly new unemployment claims report won’t be available this week because of a glitch in new technology, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment said Thursday.
“Due to the deployment of its new online unemployment benefits system, and impacts to underlying reports, there are currently no new claims or benefits payment data available to report for the week ending January 16,” according to a statement.
The new distribution system MyUI+’s cloud technology, installed by vendor Deloitte, went live Jan. 10.
It combines both systems the CDLE used in 2020: The old mainframe legacy system MyUI and the new system modified in April to handle PUA and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation claims for contract and gig workers.
The last unemployment claims figures for the week ending Jan. 9 reported 14,123 regular initial unemployment claims were filed.
That was a significant drop (44%) from the 25,178 initial claims filed the week ending Jan. 2.
The department believes the report for the week ending Jan. 23, to be released Jan. 28, will be available.
The CDLE officials will release December unemployment situation Friday.
