Free COVID-19 community testing site to open in Douglas County

Another community testing site for COVID-19 will open this weekend in Douglas County, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced Tuesday.

The site will provide free testing daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Saturday in partnership with Mako Medical.

The site is located at the Douglas County Fairgrounds (500 Fairgrounds Drive) in Castle Rock.

Walk-ins are welcome but pre-registration is encouraged to reduce wait time.

Residents can pre-register online.

CDPHE recommends people get tested for COVID-19 at least five days after suspected exposure or immediately if experiencing symptoms.

COVID-19 symptoms can appear two to 14 days after exposure and include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, body aches, headache, sore throat and loss of taste or smell.

People who suspect they have been exposed to the virus should isolate themselves while they await test results.

Currently, experts estimate 1 in 40 Coloradans are contagious with the coronavirus.

Other COVID-19 community testing sites can be found online.

Motorists queue up for blocks along Auraria Parkway to take advantage of free COVID-19 testing outside the Pepsi Center early Tuesday, July 7, 2020, in Denver.
