Colorado Medical Society launches COVID-19 vaccine awareness campaign
The Colorado Medical Society launched the #CMSWhatsYourWhy campaign Monday, bringing awareness to the COVID-19 vaccine by sharing reasons for getting vaccinated.
Colorado received its first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine Monday morning and gave the first shot to a front-line medical worker with underlying health conditions.
More shipments will arrive in the next two days, allowing for 46,800 Coloradans to receive the vaccine. In December and January, high-risk health care workers and people living in long-term care facilities will have access to the vaccine.
With the first wave of vaccines beginning, CMS is encouraging physicians to post on social media about why they’re choosing to get the vaccine with the hashtag #CMSWhatsYourWhy.
Dr. Mark Wallace, a family physician in northern Colorado, said he is getting the COVID-19 vaccine “to keep my family and colleagues safe and to protect my community.”
Dr. Tamaan Osbourne-Roberts posted that he is getting the vaccine “to protect myself, my family and my community.”
CMS also hopes the campaign will encourage the public to get the vaccine when it is available to them.
Officials estimate that one in 40 Coloradans are currently infected with the coronavirus. Nearly 4,000 COVID-19 patients have died in the state so far, according to John Hopkins University.
