Democrat Amy Klobuchar returning to Colorado on the eve of Super Tuesday

Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar is returning to Colorado to rally supporters the day before ballots are due in the state’s March 3 Super Tuesday primary.

The Minnesota senator is holding what her campaign calls a “grassroots event” at 1 p.m. Monday at Mile High Station, 2727 W. Colfax Ave., in Denver. Doors open at 12:15 p.m., according to a release.

Klobuchar is hoping to kick-start her campaign after poor showings in Nevada and South Carolina slowed momentum from the previous week’s New Hampshire primary, where the moderate Midwesterner finished in third place.

Following the first four contests, Klobuchar has amassed seven pledged delegates, putting her in fifth place in an eight-candidate field.

A poll released Thursday found Klobuchar trailing five other candidates among likely Colorado voters, with 6% support.

She drew an estimated 1,100 people to a town hall in Aurora on Feb. 20, and her daughter Abigail Bessler made several campaign stops on the Front Range earlier this week. In late December, Klobuchar participated in a discussion about voting and campaign finance issues in East Denver.

Klobuchar’s campaign announced last week that it was hiring a number of veteran Colorado political operatives to set up shop in the state. She’s been running a low-key digital campaign in Colorado this week, and a super PAC supporting her launched a six-figure TV and digital advertising campaign in the Denver and Colorado Springs markets on Thursday.

Campaign activity in Colorado is reaching a fever pitch this weekend as eight Democratic White House hopefuls scour the state for ballots, which have been arriving at county clerks’ offices at a stepped-up pace as Tuesday’s deadline approaches.
