Wayne Williams endorses Steve House in Colorado’s 6th Congressional District GOP primary

Colorado Springs City Councilman Wayne Williams endorsed Steve House in the 6th Congressional District Republican primary on Monday, calling the former state GOP chairman “a man of integrity, ideas and faith.”

House is one of three Republicans running in a primary for the seat held by U.S. Rep. Jason Crow, the Aurora Democrat who unseated five-term incumbent Rep. Mike Coffman in last year’s election.

Williams said in a statement: “Our political process needs more citizens of deep principle willing to come forward and serve the people of Colorado without partisanship or outside influence. I have known Steve House to be a man of integrity, ideas and faith. I am confident that Steve will be an independent voice for the residents of the 6th Congressional District.”

After losing his bid for a second term as Colorado’s secretary of state last year, Williams won election in April as an at-large member of the Colorado Springs City Council. He’s a former El Paso County clerk and recorder and served two terms as county commissioner.

The battleground 6th Congressional District includes Aurora and portions of Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas counties.

The other Republicans running for the seat are motivational speaker Casper Stockham, who has twice run for Congress in a neighboring district, and technology consultant John Szemler, a first-time candidate.

House has also won endorsements from former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton, University of Colorado Regent Heidi Ganahl and former Jefferson County GOP chair Joe Webb, his campaign said.
