Denver International Airport has selected a new contractor to help complete the first phase of the airport’s substantial renovation project, according to a Thursday press release from the airport.

The contract will be brought before a Denver City Council committee Nov. 6 and, if approved, will take effect in early 2020.

In August, airport officials fired its previous contractor, Great Hall Partners, over delays and safety violations, which did not align with airport values.

“Both Stantec and Hensel Phelps were selected because of their commitment to these values while also bringing thoughtful proposals with creative cost-savings ideas to the table,” said DIA CEO Kim Day in a statement. “We are pushing ahead so we can get back to work on the Great Hall project with our new partners.”

Stantec was selected by airport officials for design work, and Hansel Phelps will oversee construction management.

The first phase of the renovation project will be managed by Hensel Phelps, but it has yet to be determined which contractor will see through the remainder of construction.

Remodeling of DIA’s main terminal began in 2018, with the goal of transforming the Great Hall into a high-end retail and restaurant operation for travelers after passing through security.

The original budget of $770 million approved by Denver City Council has not changed, airport officials said.
