Junior Livestock Sale sets record at Colorado State Fair
Tuesday’s Junior Livestock Sale set a new record for the bid on a grand champion market steer, the Colorado State Fair announced Wednesday.
Tuesday’s auction featured sales of 146 animals: rabbits, chickens, lambs, hogs, steer and goats. The top bid of $66,000 for the grand champion steer was a record, according to a statement Wednesday from the Colorado Department of Agriculture.
The steer, raised by Shae Stone of Eaton, was purchased by the Sam Brown family of Pueblo, which traditionally buys the grand champion steer.
The auction raised $506,150 for the youth who raise the animals. Those who exhibited at the state fair got there by taking top honors at local county fairs around the state during 2019.
“The Colorado State Fair Junior Livestock Sale has raised millions of dollars for our state’s 4-H and FFA over the past four decades,” said Colorado State Fair General Manager Scott Stoller in a statement Wednesday.
“This sale is a reflection of their hard work and dedication to their animals, as well as the generosity of the philanthropists who support these amazing kids and make this event possible.”
