SOS Jena Griswold’s office asked Planned Parenthood for edits on Alabama-boycott news release
Before Colorado’s secretary of state put out a news release calling for a boycott of Alabama over the state’s new abortion law, her office sent the news release to Planned Parenthood for suggestions and edits.
On May 16, Secretary of State Jena Griswold announced she was restricting employee travel to Alabama in response to the state’s strict anti-abortion law.
The new law makes performing an abortion a felony in nearly all cases, punishable by up to life in prison, and with no exceptions for rape and incest.
About two hours before the news release was sent out, Griswold’s communications director, Serena Woods, emailed the draft news release to Whitney Phillips and Jack Teter.
Phillips is the vice president of communications for Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains and Teter is Planned Parenthood’s political director.
Woods said she was seeking “thoughts/edits.”
