Who said public awareness campaigns aren’t effective?

Nearly 16,000 Coloradans registered to vote or updated their voter registrations Tuesday, which was National Voter Registration Day, Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams’ office said in a statement.

On Tuesday, 2,749 Coloradans registered to vote that day, and 13,223 updated their registration, the announcement said.

Meanwhile, 61 withdrew their registrations. (Wait, what?)

In all, the registration activity amounted to more than a five-fold increase over the day prior. The press release included the chart below, which illustrates the spike.

“I’m excited that so many Coloradans updated their registrations or registered on National Voter Registration Day,” Williams said.

In 2016, more than three-quarters of a million eligible individuals nationwide registered to vote on the holiday, according to its website.

Did you sail through Tuesday blissfully unaware of the momentous occasion? Not even sure if you’re registered to vote, or at what address?

Never fear, says Williams. Would-be voters can visit govotecolorado.com or text “CO” to 28683 (2VOTE) to ensure that they’re registered and that their address is correct.

If you want to receive a ballot in the mail, you have until Oct. 29 to register, but we wouldn’t recommend waiting that long. You know what they say – the early bird gets the worm.

And if that isn’t incentive, I don’t know what is.
