Colorado Day: Politicos shower state with compliments on its birthday
It’s Colorado Day, our beloved state’s birthday. It was on this date in 1876 that President Ulysses S. Grant signed a declaration admitting Colorado to the Union as a state.
Not surprisingly, Colorado politicos of all stripes took to Twitter to wish her a happy one – and the compliments are pouring in.
“Still shining with all her wisdom and beauty,” U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, the state’s Democratic gubernatorial nominee, gushed on Twitter.
Happy #ColoradoDay to our favorite state! 142 years old today, and still shining with all her wisdom and beauty. pic.twitter.com/3DfdD5OwWY

“There’s no place like home!” Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman exclaimed. (Isn’t that a Kansas reference? Anyway ….)
There is no place like home! Happy #ColoradoDay ~ The #CentennialState is 142 years strong today! See how it all started: https://t.co/EI7TQAVLA1 pic.twitter.com/MJ2uLmMc21

The state’s Republican attorney general nominee offered up what may be her biggest compliment of the day by shaving nearly a century off her age.
“You don’t look a day over 50,” he tweeted. “Keep it going, Centennial State.”
Happy Colorado Day! Despite the incredible changes, you don’t look a day over 50. Keep it going, Centennial State. I’m proud to have called you “home” for more than 45 years. pic.twitter.com/2dFqL0Fvir

And then there was this gem from Gov. John Hickenlooper, who was, apparently, so jazzed about Colorado Day that he decided to practice blowing out candles the day before, just to sharpen his skills.
Getting some practice in for our Colorado Day celebrations, tomorrow! 🎊🎉🎂 #ColoradoDay #ColoradoCake @cbsdenver pic.twitter.com/HjJpRXMI8C

So here’s to you, Colorado. If you trust Brauchler, you don’t look a day over 50. If you trust state Senate Dems, you don’t look a day over 142. We’ll let you decide who to listen to.
Happy Colorado Day. You don’t look a day over 142 years old. #coleg #ColoradoDay pic.twitter.com/l5rPQyzZon
