Colorado Day: Politicos shower state with compliments on its birthday

It’s Colorado Day, our beloved state’s birthday. It was on this date in 1876 that President Ulysses S. Grant signed a declaration admitting Colorado to the Union as a state.

Not surprisingly, Colorado politicos of all stripes took to Twitter to wish her a happy one – and the compliments are pouring in.

“Still shining with all her wisdom and beauty,” U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, the state’s Democratic gubernatorial nominee, gushed on Twitter.

“There’s no place like home!” Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman exclaimed. (Isn’t that a Kansas reference? Anyway ….)

The state’s Republican attorney general nominee offered up what may be her biggest compliment of the day by shaving nearly a century off her age.

“You don’t look a day over 50,” he tweeted. “Keep it going, Centennial State.”

And then there was this gem from Gov. John Hickenlooper, who was, apparently, so jazzed about Colorado Day that he decided to practice blowing out candles the day before, just to sharpen his skills.

So here’s to you, Colorado. If you trust Brauchler, you don’t look a day over 50. If you trust state Senate Dems, you don’t look a day over 142. We’ll let you decide who to listen to.
