Colorado Tourism Board elects first woman, Andrea Fulton, as chair

The Colorado Tourism Board has elected the first woman as its chair, Andrea Fulton of Wheat Ridge, who is chief marketing officer for the Denver Art Museum.

She was chosen by her fellow board members. She is joined to co-chairs Courtney Frazier, executive director of the Colorado Dude and Guest Ranch Association, and Doug Price, president and CEO of the Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The 11-member board appointed by the governor oversees the Colorado Tourism Office.

The board has seats reserved for designated parts of the state’s tourism economy. Those seats shuffled this week:

Demuele is the first casino representative on the board since it started in 2000, the Colorado Tourism Office said Friday.

That’s fitting, the office suggested, noting the gaming industry pumped $800 million into the state economy last year.

“I look forward to working in the coming year with Andrea and the entire board as we collaborate on building an even stronger competitive edge for Colorado’s tourism industry,” said CTO Director Cathy Ritter. “The experience and knowledge of our board is a huge asset, and our newest appointees – Lucy and Sean – will add valuable new perspectives to our work.”

The rest of the board is past board chairman Matthew Skinner, chief operating officer for the Colorado Flights Alliance; Michael May, owner and CEO of Mars Hospitality; Sonia Quinn Riggs, president and CEO of the Colorado Restaurant Association; Peter Piccolo, executive director of Bicycle Colorado; and Jesse Niles True, senior vice president of marketing and sales at Copper Mountain Resort.

Four legislators also serve on the board: Sens. Leroy Garcia, D-Pueblo, and Randy Baumgardner, R-Hot Sulphur Springs, with Reps. Bob Rankin, R-Carbondale, and Barbara McLachlan, Durango.
