Colo. governor’s race: Donna Lynne advances to primary ballot
Add one more name to the Democrats’ primary ballot for Colorado governor.
Secretary of State Wayne Williams announced Friday afternoon that Democratic Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne has successfully petitioned her way onto the June 26 primary ballot.
Lynne, a former Kaiser Permanente executive, submitted 22,512 petition signatures to Williams’ office, of which 11,733 were deemed valid. She needed 10,500 valid signatures – 1,500 or more from each of Colorado’s seven congressional districts.
Lynne’s closest call was in eastern Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, where she submitted 1,556 signatures deemed valid.
Lynne will join former state treasurer Cary Kennedy and U.S. Rep. Jared Polis on the Democratic ballot, both of whom advanced to the ballot through the party assembly process, and former state Sen. Mike Johnston, who also petitioned onto the ballot.
On the Republican side, earlier Friday, Williams’ staff found former state Rep. Victor Mitchell had successfully petitioned his way onto the gubernatorial primary ballot. They said businessman Doug Robinson had fallen short, but he signaled he plans to challenge that conclusion.
The winner in the November election will succeed Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper, who is term-limited.
