It’s too early to say for sure, but it seems like cooler heads eventually may prevail in a discussion about the Pueblo Animal Protection Act, or PAPA for short. For weeks, there’s been heated debate about an animal protection ordinance sponsored by Pueblo City Councilmen Chris Nicoll and Ed Brown.

Now that Pueblo County commissioners have been drawn into the discussion, there’s fresh hope that the city and county will work together to find a reasonable compromise.

“I think what’s important is that we bring everyone to the table and have thoughtful dialogue,” Commissioner Sal Pace said last week. “I don’t think we want to take any hasty steps and I think we certainly want to talk to the City Council and see if there isn’t a middle ground where everyone can feel happy about the direction moving forward. I think the last thing we all want is any more conflict or division in our community.”
