The Colorado Legislature met in a special session this week in which nothing much was accomplished. On the plus side, though, legislators did avoid setting a terrible precedent that could have had led to difficult ethical questions in the future.

Gov. John Hickenlooper called the special session to fix a technical glitch in a law legislators passed during their regular session last spring. The law inadvertently prevented several special taxing districts around the state from collecting taxes on marijuana sales.

Republicans in the House and Senate questioned whether a special session was really necessary and also whether the tax issue could be resolved without voter approval. The session ended after two days without any fixes being approved by the Legislature.
