Finding a trash and recycling site

The City of Pueblo has a plan to open a new big item trash drop-off site with free recycling as early as January at the old animal shelter on Stockyard Road. The site is located near the confluence of Fountain Creek and the Arkansas River on Stockyard Road just east of Joplin Avenue (Highway 227).

Earl Wilkinson, the city’s public works director, notes that the old dog pound site has all the essential elements to be a trash collection site – already fenced with a building to house city staff and no nearby neighbors who might object. In fact, the site’s location, remote from populated areas, is one of its selling points.

Wilkinson said the city will staff the operation to accept large trash items – old couches, mattresses, tires and the like – for a small fee with the added feature of free recycling of plastic, cardboard, glass and metals.
