EDITORIAL: State hospital still treading water
Two steps forward, two steps back.
That pretty much sums up the “progress” administrators at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo have made in addressing a staffing shortage at the facility. Last week, the governor’s office reported that there were 97 vacancies in patient-care positions at the state hospital.
For perspective, that’s the exact same number of vacancies that were reported there back in June when the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment put the 449-bed hospital on “conditional” status. In response, CMHIP administrators developed a plan to correct the staffing shortage.
