For voters in the Western United States, perhaps the most troubling of all the election rhetoric in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election was what was left unsaid.

Virtually no discussion took place on the major policy issues in the West, such as public lands policies, water policies and the libertarian marijuana policies that have been enacted via the initiative process in states such as Colorado.

Of the four candidates for president and vice president from the two major parties, only Mike Pence, from Indiana, doesn’t have a home address on the East Coast.

That’s important now, because it will be left to the Cabinet appointments to bring clarity to the incoming Trump administration’s relationship with the West.
