Jeffco Republican Party books Kyle Rittenhouse to headline 2nd Amendment-themed fundraiser

The Jefferson County Republican Party announced this week that conservative celebrity Kyle Rittenhouse, who was acquitted four years ago on murder charges, is set to headline a fundraiser focused on the Second Amendment next month in Golden.

The county GOP’s chairman, former reality TV star and convicted felon Rich Wyatt, is also slated to appear at the all-day event, according to an invitation posted on the party’s website and social media accounts.

Billed as “The can’t-miss event for every gun owner,” the proceedings are scheduled to cover topics including “situational awareness,” practical concealed carry tips, “handling contact with law enforcement while armed” and “survival of challenges faced after use of deadly force situations.”

Admission to the June 28 fundraiser at Jefferson County Fairgrounds, dubbed “2nd Amendment Saturday,” is $150 per person, with VIP tickets priced at $399. Those age 15-21 can attend without charge.

In 2021, a jury acquitted Rittenhouse on all charges after he shot and killed two people and wounded a third person in 2020 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, during a night of protests that turned violent following the shooting of a Black man by a White police officer.

Rittenhouse said he went from his home in nearby Antioch, Illinois, to protect property from rioters and acted in self-defense after he came under attack.

Following the verdicts in his high-profile trial, Rittenhouse took to the conservative speaking circuit and has appeared at some of the movement’s most prominent events, including Turning Point USA gatherings and the 2023 Western Conservative Summit in Denver.

Wyatt, who was elected to run the county party in February, ran the Gunsmoke Guns store in Wheat Ridge with his family and was featured on the Discovery Channel’s “American Guns” program for two seasons more than a decade ago. He served 18 months in federal prison on tax charges before reaching a plea agreement that cut short an initial 78-month sentence.

The event announcement came a year after the same county GOP cancelled a planned fundraiser featuring Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who was then the governor of South Dakota, after an uproar over her account of killing a disobedient dog in a memoir sparked protests.
