Aurora School Board president Anne Keke to seek vacated House District 41 seat
Dr. Anne Keke, president of the Aurora School Board, told Colorado Politics Tuesday that she intends to run for the House District 41 seat in Aurora left vacant by Democratic Rep. Iman Jodeh, who was chosen to represent Senate District 29 on Monday.
The Arapahoe County Democratic Party’s HD41 vacancy committee will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 22, to choose Jodeh’s successor.
Jodeh replaced Sen. Janet Buckner, who resigned in December, just weeks after winning an unopposed race for a second term. She cited a rough 2024 and deaths in her family for resigning.

Keke has already racked up a substantial list of endorsements, including five current Democratic members of the General Assembly.
In her announcement, Keke said, “I am running for House District 41 because I believe every Coloradan deserves an equitable chance to thrive. As a single mother, immigrant, educator, and advocate, I understand the challenges our families face. I am committed to bringing solutions that address our housing crisis, promote quality education, drive economic prosperity, and ensure the safety and well-being of all our communities. It is time for bold leadership in District 41.”
The third vacancy committee of the week meets Tuesday night to select a successor to Sen. Chris Hansen, D-Denver, who resigned in December to take the CEO position of La Plata Electric. The Denver Democratic Party’s Senate District 31 committee will choose from at least seven candidates.
The meeting begins at 6:30 with an hour-long candidates forum; the election portion is slated to being at 7:40 p.m. and will be livestreamed here.
As of Tuesday, 20 members of the General Assembly will have gained their seats at some point in their legislative career through the vacancy process. That number will increase to 21 with the HD41 vacancy, and could go higher depending on who wins the SD31 vacancy Tuesday night. Two current members of the state House are among the seven candidates.
