DENVER AMERICAN INDIAN FESTIVAL
Denver
News: The public is invited to learn more about American Indian culture this weekend when the Denver American Indian Festival takes place on the grounds of the Lakewood United Methodist Church, 1390 Brentwood St., Lakewood.
Admission is free to this family-friendly event that runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 23 and noon to 5 p.m. on Sept. 24.
The Lakewood location, explains festival chair Carrie Howell, enables the Denver American Indian community “To better reach into communities that traditionally haven’t had the opportunity to experience the beautiful culture of our Native American heritage.”
And “By joining our long-time partners such as the Chicano Humanities Arts Council, Azteca Huitzilopochtli and the Colorado Folk Arts Council, we are helping them create a vibrant arts scene in Lakewood that includes our diverse communities.”
In addition to food and crafts, the festival will feature entertainment by artists that include Shelley Morningsong and Fabian Fontenelle (songs, dancing and flute music); Rose Red Feather Woman (storyteller/songwriter); Eric “Many Winds” Herrera (flute music); Huitzilopochtli (Aztec dancers); the Seven Falls Dancers and Alasadir x cosmik sage (Native rappers).
About the organization: The Denver American Indian Festival is a 100% volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit that since its founding has welcomed over 20,000 visitors and 81 tribal representatives.
