Homeless camp sweep conducted in Denver’s RiNo neighborhood

Crews cleared a homeless camp in Denver’s River North Arts District on Monday morning.

The camp was near 29th Street and Arkins Court, two blocks west of Brighton Boulevard.

Advocacy group Denver Homeless Out Loud told Denver Gazette news partner 9News that 300 people experiencing homelessness live at the camp.

Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure spokeswoman Nancy Kuhn told 9News the cleanup aims to address “deteriorating conditions and encumbrances in the public right of way.”

Kuhn said the department posted a notice of the cleanup seven days ago.

The site is near a vacant lot of land and next to the Cross Roads Shelter and South Platte River, according to Denver Homeless Out Loud.

“Outreach teams have been visiting the area in advance to connect people to services, shelter and housing, and that work continues today,” Kuhn told 9NEWS.
