Colorado’s Crow to lead sunrise run for proposed military memorial

U.S. Rep. Jason Crow will join fellow Congressman Mike Gallagher, R-Wisc., to lead a run on the National Mall, raising awareness for a proposed new military memorial.

Crow and Gallagher, both veterans, introduced the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Location Act earlier this week, authorizing three possible locations in Washington, D.C., for the location of a facility honoring service members killed in recent military operations.

The run will commence next to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, pass the site options – Constitution Gardens, West Potomac Park and the JFK Hockey Fields – and end near the World War II Memorial.

Three other House members who also served in the military since 9/11 will join Crow and Gallagher.

“The Global War on Terrorism changed the course of American history and the lives of the millions of service members, first responders, and civil servants who stepped up to serve our country. The sacrifices of this generation are all too often forgotten amidst the political debates of our time,” said Crow after introducing the bill.

The legislation follows a policy change from a previous Congress in which language prohibited authorized war memorials on federal land until 10 years after the conflict’s end. Gallagher introduced legislation, which the president signed, to waive that requirement.
