Colorado will receive $1.46 million in emergency relief funding to rebuild roads that were damaged by natural disasters, said Sen. Cory Gardner in a release Wednesday.

Of that, $1.2 million will go toward repairing damage done to State Highway 145 by rockfall in May, which dug an eight-foot ditch into the highway, causing it to close for several days. The largest rock weighs 8.5 million pounds, so rather than moving it, Gov. Jared Polis declared it a landmark and named it “Memorial Rock.”

The remaining $257,747 will be used for road reconstruction following flooding in January 2017.

“After severe flooding and rockfall, communities in Colorado need funding for critical infrastructure repairs,” said Gardner in the release. “These funds will help our state recover, and I’ll continue to advocate for federal funding and programs to aid states in addressing damages from natural disasters.”
