The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel: A no-win situation

Credit the Bureau of Land Management for trying to find a solution to a complicated problem.

In Wednesday’s edition, the Sentinel’s Dennis Webb chronicled Bill Babbel’s quest to erect a flagpole on BLM land near a famous local landmark that fronts U.S. Highway 50 between Grand Junction and Delta.

There’s already a flagpole at that location – the site of the renowned blue spruce “Christmas tree” – on the west side of the highway. Babbel wants to install a much-taller 25-foot flagpole to fly the U.S. flag and illuminate it at night.
