Mike Pence to appear at Trump super PAC fundraiser in Denver

Vice President Mike Pence is set to headline a private fundraiser Thursday in Denver for the super PAC that backs candidates who support President Donald Trump’s agenda – but won’t be appearing at any events for Colorado candidates or the state Republican Party.

Pence is scheduled to appear at a luncheon at The Palm, a downtown Denver steakhouse, to benefit America First Action, the PAC, after landing on Air Force Two at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, the White House said.

A few hours later, Pence will be campaigning for Oklahoma Republicans, including the state’s GOP gubernatorial nominee Kevin Stitt, in Tulsa, and he’ll finish the day in Wichita, Kansas, at a campaign event for Kris Kobach, the Republican running for governor of Kansas.

According to the White House, Pence hasn’t planned any public appearances during his brief visit to Denver.

A week ago, Trump gave Colorado gubernatorial candidate Walker Stapleton his “complete and total Endorsement” in a tweet, but the Stapleton campaign has said it doesn’t expect the president to hold a campaign event in Colorado before the election.

A semi-frequent visitor to Colorado since taking office, Pence and his family vacationed over the holidays near Aspen in December and delivered remarks at a national Space Symposium in April in Colorado Springs.

Pence vowed that Republicans would pass tax reform legislation a year ago at a Greenwood Village fundraiser for the Colorado GOP that drew protesters dressed as characters from “The Handmaid’s Tale,” a book and series about women held in bondage in a future society. Following initially slow sales, the state party slashed ticket prices to the event, which eventually sold out.

America First Action has raised more than $30 million this cycle and spent more than $16 million in federal races across the country, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. None of the candidates it has supported or opposed are in Colorado.
